Quasimorph Room Clearing Tactics

Room clearing in Quasimorph is not about speed. It is about initiative — who acts first after a door opens, who sees whom, and whether you still have action points to respond. Magnum Scriptum’s turn-based extraction RPG punishes reckless entry harder than missed shots. A clone that dies in the first uncleared room loses every credit and item on that body. This guide teaches a repeatable method to secure rooms on Mars, Phobos, Deimos, and deeper stations where Quasimorphosis waits.

Read Combat Stances in Quasimorph first if Sneak, Walk, and Sprint costs are not muscle memory yet. Room clearing is stance discipline applied to geometry.

The door is a turn order button

Every door connects two spaces with different information states. On one side you know the layout; on the other you do not. Opening a door synchronizes both sides into combat turn order.

Open doors in Sneak. Sneak costs 1 AP per tile, grants wall sense, and makes door interaction free. That means you can stand adjacent, open, and still have AP to step back, examine, or close the door if contact is bad.

Never treat doors as cosmetic. In Quasimorph, a door opened on zero AP is a gift to whoever inside has a gun.

Never end turn peeking on last AP

The most repeated beginner failure: spend your final action point opening or peeking a door, end turn, and watch enemies act while you are frozen in the doorway.

Before you touch a handle, ask: if something is inside, do I have AP to retreat, shoot, or close the door? If the answer is no, either save the peek for next turn or spend earlier AP to position with buffer.

This rule appears in Getting Started with Quasimorph because it is foundational. Breaking it once can void an entire successful loot run.

Examine before you engage

Quasimorph lets you examine enemies to reveal armor, weapons, and posture before you commit. Examination is cheap intelligence compared to firing into cover you did not know existed.

Standard contact drill:

  1. Sneak to the door.
  2. Open in Sneak with AP in reserve.
  3. Examine every visible hostile.
  4. Decide fight, ignore, or retreat before you enter.
  5. If fighting, plan cover tiles inside the room before you cross the threshold.

Skipping examination saves seconds and costs clones. Pair this habit with the Controls Reference so examination keys are automatic under stress.

Slice the pie — clearing angles one tile at a time

Military room-clearing doctrine uses “slicing the pie” — gradually revealing a room by moving along the door frame. Quasimorph’s grid rewards the same idea.

Instead of stepping straight through the door, Sneak along the door line so wall sense and vision uncover sectors incrementally. Each step should answer: new enemy? new loot trap? new cover tile?

If a sector spawns a patrol you cannot handle, you still have AP to withdraw because you did not Sprint into center mass.

Contact distance and stance choice

Once examination confirms targets:

  • Close quarters — Sneak or Walk to cover inside the room; avoid Sprint because accuracy drops and you cannot door-abort mid-rush.
  • Long sightlines — hold Sneak in cover, fire, then break line of sight with a free door close if the layout allows.
  • Empty confirmation — Walk through to save AP versus Sneak; only after two turns without contact.

Class choice changes execution. Scouts of Hades extend recon value; Eclipse Blades want examination-backed melee entries. See Classes Hub for kit-specific clears.

Multi-room sectors and patrol timing

Stations are not single rooms. Sound and vision carry between sectors. After you clear one room, hold one turn in cover near the door and watch for patrols drawn by gunfire.

Patrol paths are learnable on repeated Mars and Phobos runs documented in the World Hub. Write mental notes: which corridor connects where, which door is a choke point, where extract sits relative to your clear path.

Planning extract route before the first shot prevents clearing half a map then dying on the run back with no AP.

Loot timing — when to grab bodies and crates

Room clearing is not complete until loot is secured and you still have extract AP. Common failure: wipe a room, spend every point looting, then die to a late patrol en route to exit.

Loot priority framework:

  1. Secure the room (enemies dead or bypassed).
  2. Identify highest-value tiles.
  3. Loot while maintaining a path to the door you entered.
  4. Stop looting when AP budget hits your pre-set extract reserve.

Heavy kits from the Loadout Planner reduce how much you can carry per trip; light kits reward faster clears but need more runs.

Clearing under Quasimorphosis pressure

Mars, Phobos, and Deimos have no Quasimorphosis, which makes them ideal training grounds for door discipline. Deeper destinations can shift mid-mission when Quasimorphosis triggers — layouts change, pressure spikes, and routes you cleared may no longer be safe.

When Quasimorphosis is possible, never clear deep into a sector without a known retreat door. Slow Sneak slices beat aggressive Walk chains because you may need to re-scout after the station morphs. Full survival tactics live in Quasimorphosis Survival Guide.

Coordinating with mission objectives

Story missions from the Walkthrough Hub often place objectives behind layered rooms. Clear to the objective, not through the entire map. Optional rooms are optional unless your build needs specific Class Chips or barter goods for Bartering on the Magnum.

Version 1.0’s five storylines — Civil Resistance, Tezctlan, Xiomara, AnCom, and RealWare — sometimes reward stealth clears over loud wipes. Examination tells you when silence is cheaper than ammo.

Post-clear checklist

Before you leave a sector:

  • All hostile examined or eliminated.
  • Loot within extract AP budget.
  • Door behind you manageable if you return.
  • Medkits and ammo counted against next room.
  • Extract path still valid on current map state.

Run this checklist until it is reflex. Players who automate it extract consistently; players who skip it feed the clone bay.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Why open doors in Sneak stance in Quasimorph?

Sneak makes door interaction free and keeps wall sense active while costing only 1 AP per tile. You can open, examine, and retreat without burning the AP budget Walk or Sprint would demand.

What does examine enemy do before a fight?

Examination reveals enemy gear, armor, and posture so you know whether to engage, bypass, or reposition. It costs far less than attacking blind into cover or heavy armor.

Can I peek a door on my last action point?

You should not. Ending turn on a door peek with zero AP lets enemies act first. Keep at least one AP in reserve after opening doors or wait until next turn.

Where should I practice room clearing safely?

Mars, Phobos, and Deimos have no Quasimorphosis, making them ideal training zones. Master door discipline there before clearing Quasimorphosis-affected stations.

How does room clearing connect to extraction?

Clearing is only successful if you extract with loot. Budget AP for the return path and extract before you loot every optional crate in the sector.

Do different classes clear rooms differently?

Yes. Scouts of Hades favor extended Sneak recon; Eclipse Blades want examination-backed close bursts. Check the Classes hub for build-specific entry tactics.
