Quasimorph Bartering on the Magnum
Turn extracted loot into kits, Class Chips, and story access without burning reputation
Between missions on the Magnum, Quasimorph stops being a tactics game and becomes an economy game. Every crate you extract can be bartered at faction stations docked to the ship, converted into ammo, medkits, Class Chips, and story keys. Magnum Scriptum ties progression to reputation as much as to raw loot value. Mismanage standing and you can lose barter access entirely — a quiet fail state worse than one bad firefight.
This guide explains how bartering works on the Magnum, why reputation dropping below zero clears barter points, and how to fund clones without sabotaging future trades. Pair it with Getting Started with Quasimorph for the extract-or-lose loop and Combat Stances for keeping clones alive long enough to have something worth trading.
The Magnum as trade hub
The Magnum is your persistent home between deployments. Clones are disposable; ship inventory is not. When you extract, loot moves into storage where barter terminals and faction representatives evaluate goods.
Barter is not a generic shop screen. Different stations prefer different item categories — weapons, components, data shards, medical supplies, and faction-specific contraband. The World Hub documents which destinations produce which goods, helping you farm what your preferred trader wants.
Think in trade routes: mission A feeds station X, station X discounts kit Y, kit Y enables mission B. Random loot hoarding fills storage but does not optimize progression.
Barter points and reputation
Two numbers govern trading power:
Barter points — currency-like allowance you spend at terminals to acquire items without always matching exact loot-for-loot trades. Points accumulate through successful deals, mission rewards, and some story beats in the Walkthrough Hub.
Reputation — standing with each station faction. High reputation unlocks better stock, discounts, and occasionally Class Chip offers listed in the Classes Hub. Low reputation does the opposite.
Critical rule from the full release economy: if reputation falls below zero, barter points for that faction are cleared. You do not simply pay more — you lose the point buffer until you repair standing through missions, deliveries, or story choices.
Treat sub-zero reputation as an emergency, not a discount phase.
How missions affect standing
Station factions remember behavior. Common reputation hits include:
- Selling stolen faction goods back to the victim station.
- Failing pledged deliveries or abandoning storyline obligations.
- Repeated hostile action in sectors tied to a faction, even if combat was self-defense.
Reputation gains usually come from targeted deliveries, story alignment in the five 1.0 arcs — Civil Resistance, Tezctlan, Xiomara, AnCom, and RealWare — and consistent trading without shady flip deals.
When a walkthrough branch asks you to betray a trader, check what barter lockout costs before you click. Some endings are worth it; some bankrupt your mid-game kit pipeline.
Practical barter workflow
Run this loop after every successful extract:
- Sort loot — sell low-value weight, keep high-demand trade goods.
- Check reputation — note any faction near zero before spending points.
- Plan purchases — medkits, ammo, and repair before luxury Class Chips.
- Preview loadout — use the Loadout Planner before you buy gear that mismatches your class.
- Deploy — enter missions with barter-funded kits instead of bare clones.
After a failed mission where the clone died, skip emotional rebuying. Rebuild from cheap Mars or Phobos farms until barter points recover. Those moons also lack Quasimorphosis, making them ideal credit recovery — see Quasimorphosis Survival Guide.
Funding classes through barter
Starter classes Scouts of Hades and Eclipse Blades need minimal barter investment. Unlockable classes via Class Chips often demand rare trade goods or high reputation tiers.
Do not buy every chip you see. Match chips to playstyle you proven in Room Clearing Tactics. A chip that changes stance habits or weight limits should be tested on the Loadout Planner before it replaces a reliable starter kit.
Barter versus on-station looting
Mission loot has two values: extract sale price and strategic trade ingredient. Some items sell for quick credits but unlock unique barter rows when kept. Keep a short list of “never sell” tags for your current storyline — walkthrough pages flag many of these.
Conversely, hoarding everything bloates inventory and slows sorting. Extract with purpose: know what barter row you are feeding before you enter the station.
Trade Shuttle after the 1.0 rework
Station barter is not the only economy screen on the Magnum. The July 31, 2026 patch reworked the Trade Shuttle into a parallel commerce tool that can sell almost any item, negotiate barter by desired item type, grind reputation through bulk sales, and move proxy company cargo between stations.
The shuttle complements terminal barter — it does not replace reputation floors. Sub-zero reputation still clears barter points whether you traded at a docked terminal or sold through shuttle reputation mode. Non-required items sell through the shuttle at reduced price, which makes it excellent for post-extract cleanup and dangerous if you liquidate walkthrough-flagged components before checking story pages.
Use station barter when you need specific terminal rows, Class Chips, or point spends. Use the shuttle when you need broad category trades, reputation recovery with a clear plan, or proxy cargo hops documented on the galaxy map. Full mode breakdown, decision tables, and storyline economy notes live in the dedicated Trade Shuttle Guide — read it after this page so reputation rules from both systems stay aligned.
Reputation recovery playbook
If reputation dips negative and barter points wipe:
- Stop trading with that faction until standing moves positive.
- Run neutral or friendly missions listed on the World hub for that station.
- Complete delivery or story beats that explicitly grant rep.
- Avoid selling contraband tied to the faction until recovery completes.
- Resume point spending only when reputation is safely above zero with buffer.
Parallel farm credits on Mars, Phobos, or Deimos so you are not idle while rep rebuilds.
Barter and version 1.0 story economy
The July 31, 2026 full release expands narrative trade gates. Some RealWare and AnCom branches offer unique barter tables unavailable in Early Access since 2023. Nine endings mean nine different economic epilogues — not all require max reputation with every faction, but min-maxers should plan faction focus early.
For critique of how tightly barter and story interlock, see the Quasimorph Review.
Controls and UI tips
Barter terminals use the same keyboard-driven UI as missions. The Controls Reference includes ship-side shortcuts worth learning so you do not mis-click trades. There is no undo on reputation hits from shady deals.
Trade Shuttle after 1.0
Version 1.0 reworks the Trade Shuttle into a full Magnum logistics tool. It can sell any item (with reduced prices on goods the shuttle does not need), and it offers three modes: typed barter, sell-for-reputation, and proxy cargo transportation. Station terminals remain the home of faction stock and Class Chips; the shuttle smooths mixed loot and standing repairs.
Read the dedicated Trade Shuttle Guide before dumping rite materials or Phase Bomb components into reduced-price sales. Reputation sell mode is powerful when standing sits near the wipe floor described above — use surplus, not narrative keys.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What happens if Quasimorph reputation drops below zero?
Barter points for that station faction are cleared when reputation falls below zero. You must rebuild standing before you regain normal barter access and point accumulation.
Where do I barter in Quasimorph?
On the Magnum ship between missions at faction-linked station terminals. Extract loot first — items on a dead clone are lost and never reach barter inventory.
How do barter points differ from loot value?
Loot has sell and trade ingredient value. Barter points are a spendable allowance at terminals, earned through deals and missions, separate from individual item prices.
Which missions are best for barter farming?
Early Mars, Phobos, and Deimos runs are safe farms without Quasimorphosis. Match destinations to the trade goods your target station wants per the World hub.
Can I buy Class Chips through barter?
Yes. Many unlockable classes require Class Chips from barter stock or reputation-gated trades. Plan purchases after you master starter kits Scouts of Hades and Eclipse Blades.
Does barter affect the five storylines in 1.0?
Yes. Civil Resistance, Tezctlan, Xiomara, AnCom, and RealWare branches include reputation and trade gates. Walkthrough pages note when barter choices lock or unlock paths.
